Sony E-mount Lens Roadmap Updated

Image
Updated Lens Roadmap for E-mount Cameras Macro G Lens and High Speed Prime Zeiss Added to 2014 Release We just noticed that the E-mount lens roadmap has been updated to provide detail to the two upcoming lenses. The roadmap suggests that we will see three more lenses before years end. One will be a Sony G Macro lens - our guess? 100mm f/2.8 macro, similar to the Sony 100mm macro . The other lens will be a Zeiss high speed prime lens - our guess? 24mm f/1.4 maybe more of a wish. This lens could be based on the NEX's 24mm f/1.8 ZA Sonnar or the A-mount Zeiss 24mm f/2 Distagon .

Sony RX1 with Zeiss 35mm Sonnar - a NEX?

Image
Sony RX1 with Zeiss 35mm f/2 Sonnar Lens Sony has set the digital camera world abuzz with leaks of the Sony RX1 . The RX1 uses the full frame, 24 x 34 mm, 24 megapixel sensor from the soon to be released Sony SLT-A99 camera. The pictures show that Zeiss developed an autofocus 35mm f/2 Sonnar lens for the RX1. Is it a fixed lens camera? Zeiss will display three new prime autofocus CSC lenses later this month at Photokina. Could they be for the RX1? A 35mm, shown above? a 50mm standard? and a 90mm macro? The speculated price for the RX1 with the Zeiss 35mm Sonnar is $2799. This is line with Sony's pricing since the NEX-7 with the Zeiss 24mm Sonnar is $2300. Sony Alpha NEX-7 Review by Engadget

Image
Here's the cliff notes to Engadget's review of the Sony NEX-7: Access to DSLR features and performance in a small body. Provides DSLR quality images. Provides 10 frames per second shooting. Room for improvement on high-ISO capability, recommends ISO6400 max. To fully exploit the NEX-7's 24mp sensor, quality lenses like the Zeiss 24mm Sonnar ZA E will help. 18-55mm Kit Lens is capable and performs decently in low light. Focusing system accurate but not the fastest. No reason to hold back on ordering the NEX-7 . Read the full NEX-7 Review by Engadget here . Thanks Engadget!

Sony NEX-7 Video Tips from Luminous Landscape

Image
Sony NEX-7 with 50mm f/1.8 OSS Lens Luminous Landscape posted their review of the NEX-7's video capabilities. They have an overall favorable review of the NEX-7. The article is very informative - read it. Here is what they say about the NEX-7 as a video camera. The Sony NEX-7 is a decent camera for shooting video. Like all DSLRs and CSCs it has its limitations, but it's not as bad as some. The scaling that Sony uses to go from 24MP down to about 2MP for video does produce some artifacts, but in many ways is better than the line skipping that Canon uses. ... The reality is that in its price range it's an excellent choice. There are the usual video DSLR problems of moire, aliasing and rolling shutter, but no worse than many, and better than some. Indeed the highly regarded Canon 5D MKII's video quality is, in my opinion, worse than that from the NEX-7 in many respects. Here's a summary of tips we learned from Luminous Landscape NEX-7 the Video Camera Review: Set th

Zeiss 24mm ZA vs 18-55mm OSS Lens

Image
Zeiss 24mm vs E 18-55mm OSS Lens on the NEX-5N mco_970 took out the Sony NEX-5N and tested the kit 18-55mm OSS against the Zeiss 24mm f/1.8 Sonnar ZA. The camera was set on a gorrilla pod and self-timer was used for stability. Autofocus was used on both lenses. Here is the overall scene. All the crops have the Zeiss on the left and the kit lens on the right. Thanks John. Now lets look at the focus point, yellow sign, at f/4. The focus point at f/8. Left corner at f/8. As we can see the 18-55mm OSS kit lens does not do too bad when it is stopped down in landscape situations where the subject is distant. There is also plenty of light where the speed of the Zeiss 24mm is not required. The photo below is indoors and close quarters. Here is where the Carl Zeiss 24mm f/1.8 Sonnar Lens shines. You can see a lot of detail that the 18-55mm lens did not resolve. Check out the full post by mco_970 with more samples at fredmiranda . Thanks mco_970!

NEX-7 Hands On Report from TheCameraStoreTV

Image
TheCameraStoreTV has posted a video of a pre-production Sony NEX-7 with the Carl Zeiss 24mm Sonnar. They have nothing but good things to say about the camera. One minor issue they have was the eye-start sensor for the new viewfinder, but as they said in the video it can easily be fixed in the options menu. In the video, he uses a Nikon to NEX E-mount lens adapter to show how versatile the NEX system is. The best thing about the video is how good the NEX-7 looks in hand. It's larger than the previous NEX cameras but it still looks very compact. He looked very comfortable with the new Tri-Navi dials and electronic viewfinder. We also liked the sound of the shutter, a nice simple click. Thanks TheCameraStoreTV !

Initial Review of Sony NEX-7 at Luminous Landscapes

Image
Sony NEX-7 with Zeiss 24mm f/1.8 Sonnar Lens Luminous Landscapes was lucky enough to be invited to test out a pre-production model of the Sony NEX-7 with firmware V0.6. They had access to the new Sony NEX lenses and the new LA-EA2 lens adapter with Sony Alpha lenses. Here are a few excerpts we found interesting: the NEX-7's user interface moves up (compared to the original NEX-3 and NEX-5) to a very high level of functionality built-in pop-up electronic flash that doubles as a wireless trigger for external flash units could make about a 20X30" print without any ressing up needed would appear to have a very week anti-aliasing filter Zeiss 24mm f/1.8 Lens : has the build and optical quality to justify its price major players are going to have to up their game if they want to hold on to their market share It looks like they like the NEX-7. NEX Zeiss 24mm and the 2011 E-mount Lenses

Image
Upcoming 2011 Sony NEX E-mount Lenses Knight Like the Wind Child from Xitek Forums posted a picture of a slide from a recent Sony presentation in China. The slide shows the updated NEX lens roadmap with the newest E-mount lenses to be released this year. We posted the roadmap back in February and it has changed considerably. First the 30mm is now clearly defined as the Sony NEX 30mm f/3.5 Macro Lens with a 1:1 reproduction ratio. The SEL30M35 lens will be sold at a price of $250 and will be available in September. We have more info here . Second, the most awaited NEX lens, the Carl Zeiss 24mm in native E-mount is now closer to reality with the maximum aperture of f/2 being defined. The lens looks to be a bit shorter than what was shown in the February lens roadmap. We are in favor of lighter and more compact lenses to keep with the NEX system's main advantage over DSLRs. 36mm FOV on the NEX is nearly the perfect normal / wide angle view for most photographers. Third is tha

Upcoming Sony NEX E-mount Lenses

The CZ 24mm autofocus NEX lens will provide an equivalent field of view of 36mm, wide angle normal, on the APS-C sensor. Three more lenses will be available in 2012. Hopefully someone can translate the image above so we can have more information on what they are. All these E-mount lenses will be autofocus lenses. Images from Akihabara News .
